Purified does not always mean pleasant
RO systems remove dissolved salts and many impurities, but taste depends on post-carbon filters, storage tank cleanliness and the mineral balance left in the water. When any of those drift, water can taste flat, metallic, plastic-like or stale even though the unit still runs.
Common reasons for bad taste
- Carbon post-filter has reached end of life
- Storage tank has biofilm or sediment build-up
- TDS is too low or too high for comfortable drinking
- Membrane is underperforming or overdue for replacement
- Long idle time lets water sit and pick up odour

What to do before you replace the whole unit
Start with a service visit: flush and clean the tank, check carbon and sediment filters, measure TDS at the outlet and inspect the membrane. Many taste issues clear after the right filter change and a proper hygiene pass — without buying a new purifier.
If taste returns quickly after service, ask about source water changes, hard-water stress or whether a softener or different TDS controller setting would help your area.
